1. Tampa Mountain – Nature’s Playground:
Picture this – the city below, the Carpathian Mountains in the distance, and a cool breeze whispering through the trees… It’s a sight you’ll remember forever! Rising 960 meters above sea level, the mountain offers breathtaking panoramic views of the picturesque city and its surroundings. You’ve got two awesome choices to reach the top here: a heart-pumping 2 hours hike or a thrilling 15-minute cable car ride to the top. Either way, the view is jaw-dropping! Hiking enthusiasts can embark on various trails leading to the mountain’s summit, where they can enjoy the reward of a magnificent view over Brasov. The ascent is well worth it, especially during sunset or sunrise, as the city and surrounding Carpathian Mountains are bathed in golden hues. Additionally, Tampa Mountain is home to diverse flora and fauna, making it an excellent spot for nature lovers and birdwatchers.
2. The Black Tower (Turnul Negru) – A Journey Back in Time:
Once upon a time, Brasov used to be a fortress and traces of its ancient walls can still be seen today. The Black Tower, also known as Turnul Negru in Romanian, is a historic landmark located in Brasov, Romania. It is one of the city’s medieval defensive towers that were part of the fortified walls surrounding the old town. Throughout its history, the tower has served various purposes, including a guard tower, a storage facility, and even a temporary prison. As you climb The Black Tower’s staircase, which boasts around 150 steps, you’ll not only be treated to panoramic views of the city but also get a glimpse of the city’s past through these remnants of its fortified history.
3. Gelato Mania – Hello, Sweet Heaven!
Be warned, there’s usually a huge queue waiting for you! Patience is the key, and trust me, waiting for about half an hour is absolutely worth it as their delectable gelato will transport you to taste bud paradise. My absolute favourite flavour to get is chocolate chili, it’ll definitely spice up your life!
4. La Ograda – Where Flavour Dreams Come True
La Ograda is a cozy little spot and my top pick to eat in Brasov. This charming restaurant offers a delightful fusion of Transylvanian dishes with a Hungarian twist. To top it off, Romania’s wines pair perfectly with the food, making it a culinary experience like no other.
5. Obscuria Escape Room – Unlock the Mystery!
Gather your buddies and get ready for an adrenaline-pumping challenge. Can you crack the code, unravel the mysteries, and beat the clock? It’s an adventure that will have you on the edge of your seat, laughing, and bonding with your team, and is a favourite activity of mine and my friends!
6. Club 13 – Where the Night Comes Alive!
As the sun sets, embrace this trendy cocktail bar that also offers shishas. It’s a favorite among the younger crowd, offering a lively atmosphere filled with music, dancing, and unforgettable moments. Don’t miss the chance to try my favorite, Espresso Martini.
7. Tales of Communism Museum – A Glimpse into the Past:
As you explore the exhibits, you’ll gain a deeper understanding of Romania’s resilience and the impact of this historical period on its people. But here’s the twist – this museum presents communism in a fun and engaging way! Through interactive displays and immersive storytelling, you’ll find yourself absorbed in the era’s nuances, leaving you with an eye-opening experience that will linger in your thoughts long after you leave.
8. The Council Square – Brasov’s Beating Heart:
The colorful buildings, the lively atmosphere, and the friendly faces will make you feel right at home. Grab a seat, people-watch, and soak in the wonderful vibes of this buzzing square. You might also be lucky enough to pet some adorable doggos, as Brasov is a dog-friendly city.
9. First Romanian School Museum – A Journey of Learning:
This remarkable destination unveils the beginnings of education in Romania, showcasing ancient textbooks and handwritten manuscripts. One of the highlights you won’t want to miss is the wooden press they have on display. This historic press played a crucial role in printing some of the earliest Romanian books, preserving knowledge and culture for generations to come.
Bonus: Hike to Malaiesti Mountain – Nature’s Masterpiece:
As a local guide, I can’t help but share my personal favourite spot – Malaiesti Mountain. This hiking paradise promises a breathtaking spectacle of nature’s beauty. As you ascend, the Carpathian Mountains reveal their majestic grandeur, and the untouched landscapes will leave you in awe. After 3 hours of hiking, you’ll reach the cozy Malaiesti chalet, where you can enjoy a well-deserved lunch and toast with Romanian palinca.
