Top 5 Wildlife Experiences
When it comes to wildlife there are never any guarantees but that is exactly the reason why having the privilege of seeing animals in the wild is so special. Completely unpredictable, you never know what you’ll see, making every sighting completely unique. At Untravelled Paths, we love nothing more than delivering special experiences for our guests, so for those who like to step into the wild have a look at 5 of our best Wildlife Experiences.
The Grey Wolf Experience
The newest of our Into the Wild adventures, the Grey Wolf Experience is arguably the most challenging but authentic as you’ve got to work hard and have patience as you track these aloof and private creatures. Immersing yourself in the wildlife process to track wolves isn’t for everyone, however, it’s hugely rewarding. The extensive time with the wildlife expert allows you to absorb so much, gaining a greater understanding of nature and the tracking process. Set in the forests of the Carpathian mountains, you’ll also have the opportunity to see an array of other animals from wild boar, brown bears, golden jackals, birds of prey and much more. A reasonable level of fitness is required and this experience is ideal for those who love the outdoors.
The Danube Delta Experience
Europe’s last remaining wilderness, with more than 300 species of migratory and resident birds and the third largest biodiversity (over 5,500 flora and fauna species) behind only the Great Barrier Reef and the Galapagos, the Danube Delta Experience is a must for wildlife and nature enthusiasts. Teeming with wildlife, rivers, canals, marshes, lakes, the world’s largest reed bed and combined with authentic traditional fishing villages that haven’t changed in decades there really is no other place like the Danube Delta. With practically no roads in the delta, transport is exclusively by boat so you’ll be able to relax and enjoy the unique, beautiful setting of the Danube Delta.
The Iberian Lynx Experience
Critically Endangered in 2005, the Iberian Lynx is one of the rarest cats you can see in the world, only found in pockets of Andalusia in Southern Spain. Fortunately, since then numbers have been increasing but for 10 months of the year, you’d have to be extremely lucky to spot a lynx as they are very aloof and extremely well camouflaged. However, for those other two months, our Iberian Lynx Experience gives you a great opportunity to see the Iberian Lynx as frankly, they have more important things on their mind – mating! This fixation becomes their sole concern and combined with the winter season which strips the landscape of the foliage makes the lynx relatively easy to spot, giving you a good chance of seeing this rare but majestic cat.
The South Africa Experience
With breathtaking landscapes, vibrant people, amazing food, incredible wines, and some of the best wildlife viewing in the world, our 14-night South Africa Experience (or the shorter 9-night Western Cape Safari Experience) has it all. From the Table Mountain hyrax, baboons of Cape Point, penguins of boulders beach (lead imagine), seals, great white sharks, whales, and of course the safari big 5 makes South Africa a must-do for all wildlife lovers! It’s also the most affordable safari destination and the country itself offers terrific value so you’ll have this fabulous experience without it being too dear on your wallet. Well worth considering for 2023.
The Brown Bear Experience
Finally, our very first Into the Wild adventure, the Brown Bear Experience offers you the chance to not only see brown bears in the wild but also visit the Libearty Bear Sanctuary which has been rescuing bears from captivity for more than a decade. Romania has the largest population of Brown Bears in Europe so really does offer your best chance of viewing these magnificent animals and all against the stunning backdrop of rolling hills of the rural Transylvanian countryside. It’s an ideal experience for people of all ages and offers a lovely balance of wildlife, culture and the great outdoors.
