Where to Visit and When to Visit in 2024

Happy New Year! As the world slowly awakens from their New Year celebrations we thought we would tickle your wanderlust with adventures for 2024 with recommendations of some of our favourite destinations and when to visit them. January: Colombia

There isn’t really a bad time to visit Colombia but January is a fantastic time to visit Colombia for several reasons. Firstly, it is the peak of the dry season, ensuring pleasant weather and clear skies. This allows visitors to explore the country’s stunning landscapes, from the Caribbean coast to the Andes Mountains, without worrying about rainfall. Additionally, January is the month of various vibrant festivals and events, such as the Feria de Manizales and the Carnaval de Blancos y Negros, offering a unique cultural experience. February: South Africa

February is a lovely time to visit South Africa for several reasons. The weather is warm and pleasant, making it ideal for outdoor activities like safaris and exploring the beautiful beaches. March: Italy

Is there ever a bad time to visit Italy? We don’t think so but for these itching to get away from the winter season as soon as possible March is an underrated time to visit Italy, with a particular highlight being the southern region of Puglia. With mild temperatures and fewer crowds, Puglia offers the perfect conditions for exploring its picturesque towns and stunning coastline. But what truly sets Puglia apart is its delectable cuisine. March is the time to indulge in the region’s famous dishes, such as orecchiette pasta, fresh seafood, and olive oil. April: Bosnia

Visit before the crowds arrive in the region April is a great time to visit Bosnia, as the country begins to awaken from its winter slumber and the spring season unfolds. May is one of my favourite times to visit Romania, as the country bursts into life with the arrival of spring. With mild temperatures and longer daylight hours, May offers perfect conditions for exploring Romania’s natural wonders, such as the breathtaking Carpathian Mountains, the stunning Danube Delta and the bird migration. Additionally, May brings an array of vibrant events and festivals, including the Bucharest International Film Festival and the Sibiu International Theatre Festival, providing visitors with a unique cultural experience. With the stark nature of this remote archipelago in the North Atlantic its always a bit of a toss of the coin when it comes to the weather but July arguably gives you the best chance of having the weather gods on your side. The long daylight hours and moderate temperatures make it an ideal month for outdoor exploration. July offers breathtaking landscapes, with lush green valleys, dramatic cliffs, and cascading waterfalls. Balmy on the coast and inland and mild weather in the mountains August is an ideal month to visit Slovenia, a picturesque country nestled in the heart of Europe. September: Montenegro

Early September is when you’ll often find me in Montenegro, a not so hidden gem anymore, on the Adriatic coast. With the summer crowds starting to dwindle, September offers a more tranquil and authentic experience of the country. The weather remains warm and pleasant, making it perfect for exploring the breathtaking coastlines, charming medieval towns, and majestic mountains. September is also an ideal time for outdoor activities like hiking, kayaking, and sailing, with the added bonus of fewer tourists. October: Morocco

October is peak season (Along with April) to visit Morocco, as the scorching summer heat begins to fade, and the weather becomes more pleasant. With fewer tourists compared to the peak season, October offers a more relaxed and authentic experience of this vibrant country. It is the ideal time to explore the bustling medinas of Marrakech, wander through the charming blue streets of Chefchaouen, or venture into the Sahara Desert for a magical camel trek. November: Ethiopia

Possibly my favourite intrepid destination, November is an great time to visit Ethiopia, as it marks the end of the rainy season and the start of the dry season. The landscapes are lush and green, making it an ideal time for hiking and exploring the stunning highlands and national parks. November also brings cultural festivities like the Timkat Festival, a vibrant celebration of Epiphany, where locals gather to witness the ceremonial reenactment of Jesus’ baptism. With pleasant temperatures and fewer tourists, November allows visitors to fully experience the rich history, diverse landscapes, and warm hospitality of Ethiopia. Season: September to May

December: Finland

Christmas, Santa Claus and the Northern Lights. How could any other destination be better for December! It’s wonderful time to visit Finland, especially for those seeking a magical winter experience. With its snowy landscapes and cozy atmosphere, Finland offers a range of exciting activities. Visitors can enjoy thrilling winter sports like skiing and snowboarding, go on husky sledding adventures, or witness the mesmerising Northern Lights. December is also when the country celebrates Christmas traditions, such as the Santa Claus Village in Rovaniemi, where visitors can meet Santa himself.
