Discover the stunning Slovenia and its many highlights. From the pretty seaside town of Piran to the remote mountain cabins, glacial lakes and the incredibly pretty capital of Ljubljana, Slovenia offers the perfect outdoor getaway. You’ll get to enjoy the green pastures, clean air and natural beauty of one of Europe’s most eco friendly countries.

The Experience

Day 1: Arrival in Ljubljana followed by an airport transfer to your boutique accommodation in the heart of the old town. After your welcome meeting, spend the rest of the day as you choose, perhaps visiting Ljubljana’s Castle perched high up on a hill, enjoying the stunning panoramic views of the city or simply strolling through the cobbled streets of the incredibly charming old district.

Day 2: After a leisurely morning you’ll have a late morning transfer towards the stunning remote rural mountain setting of Velika Planina. You’ll be dropped off at the bottom of the mountain where you’ll travel first by cable car and then by chair lift to the Velika Planina with its 360 degree panoramic views. Enjoy a picnic lunch and an afternoon to explore the area before enjoying dinner in this beautiful mountain setting.

Day 3: Morning departure from the mountain via chair lift and cable car before travelling on to Slovenia’s most famous attraction, the stunningly picturesque Lake Bled. Once you arrive you’ll take a boat to Bled’s island and the Church of the Assumption. After your boat excursion you’ll have lunch and visit Bled Castle. Then you’ll drive through the stunning mountains of the Triglav National Park.

Day 4: Activity, culture or leisure day. Choose between the array of adventure activities such as white water rafting, kayaking, hiking or explore the nearby mountain churches and waterfalls or simply find a quiet spot and get stuck into a good book.

Day 5: Transfer to the quaint coastal town of Piran, stopping on route for lunch before enjoying some of Slovenia’s finest wines in a tour of the winery. Once you arrive in Piran you’ll have time relax and enjoy the picturesque setting of the town.

Day 6: Day at your leisure to explore the sights on Piran from the pretty Tartini Square great for people watching to climbing the bell tower and the fortress walls which offer fabulous views of both the city and the sea. There are optional excursions such as boat trips, walking tours, shell museums or a visit to the Lipica stud farm for those who would prefer to keep themselves busy.

Day 7: Transfer from Piran to the Church of the Holy Trinity which is famed for its frescoes and in particular the unique “Dance of Death”. Afterwards you will travel on to the lesser visited Skocjan Caves before enjoying a traditional lunch. Once you arrive back in Ljubljana you’ll have the rest of the day at your leisure. Should you wish to visit Prostojna Castle and Predjama Castle, this can be organised for you.

Day 8: Transfer to Ljubljana airport for return flight

The Country

Slovenia is an unexpectedly wild, beautiful land and home to the famed Lake Bled, arguably the cutest capital in Europe and some very tasty food and wine. Combine this with incredibly friendly locals, plenty of green grass and vast mountains peaks and you have the perfect place for the great outdoors!

Slovenia’s capital perfectly mixes baroque facades with the 20th-century native architecture. Its iconic Tromostovje (Triple Bridge) spans the tightly curving Ljubljanica River. With colourful houses, cobbled streets and Ljubljana Castle, that sits impressively on a hill looming over the city, it is impossible not to be charmed.

Accommodation in Ljubljana:

Please Note: Accommodation will be allocated by Untravelled Paths subject to availability. In the event there is no availability we will use alternative accommodation of similar standard and quality.

The picturesque coastal town of Piran sits at the tip of a narrow peninsula in the Gulf of Piran. Slovenia’s only major town on the sea is very well preserved and teeming with history and beautiful gothic architecture. Its quaint cobbled streets, small harbour and stunning sunsets offer the perfect setting to relax and unwind.

Accommodation in Piran:

Includes Hotel Piran

Includes Memento B&B Piran

Triglav National Park

You’ll stay in the charming small town of Bovec, surrounded by impressive peaks, forests and glacial lakes. This is perfect base to explore and partake in the numerous activities available. The turquoise Soca River is understandably a highlight along with stunning waterfalls and even the Walk of Peace trail which takes in various sights linked to World War I.

Lake Bled

Lake Bled is a glacial lake fed by hot springs. The town of Bled contains a church-topped islet and a cliffside medieval castle offering the perfect photo of the Lake. Due to the Lake’s popularity we try hard to avoid the main crowds as it can get very busy, particularly over holiday periods.

The Season

Slovenia’s summer weather is pretty reliable with plenty of sunshine, warm temperatures and sunshine allowing you to make the most of this beautiful country.

April & May: Spring is typically a lovely time to visit Slovenia as it’s beautifully lush green with the flowers starting to bloom making it a great time to hike and enjoy the outdoors. Rafting is at its best in May due to the fast flowing water from the snow melting in the mountains. Less crowded and largely sunny and dry with the occasional rain.

June, July & August: Naturally summer is the most reliable period for weather but it does bring the crowds. You can expect mostly sunny, blue skies which ensure you see this picturesque country at its very best. If you like socialising the crowds do bring a holiday atmosphere to the whole country.

September & October: September is generally one of the driest months of the year and travelling outside of the school holidays means the it is less crowded. Sunny, dry with occasional rain.

November: The ski season doesn’t start until mid December so although you can expect lower temperatures is it also a very tranquil time to come and visit the country with only small crowds reserved for the likes of Lake Bled. Occasional rain but you can also expect some crisp days with blue skies.

The Duration & The Calendar

The Slovenia Experience takes place over seven nights and eight days and typically commences every Saturday during the season. However, the arrival and departure times of your chosen flights may well affect the exact duration of your stay. Many use the flexibility of booking their own flights to add an additional night or two (or three) in Ljubljana at the beginning and/or end of the experience to make the very most of their time in Slovenia.

The calendar on the book now page shows exactly when trips are available throughout the season. As well as displaying which trip dates are fully booked or available, the calendar also highlights specific dates that have been discounted or are on special offer. Click here to see available dates and rates on our calendar.

The Scenery: Mountain towns, the incredibly picturesque Lake Bled and the enchanting capital of Ljubljana. Yes, it’s safe to say the scenery is most definitely a highlight of the hidden gem that is Slovenia.

The Food & Wine: Due to its central location in Europe, Slovenia’s culinary offerings take their influences from a number of countries which makes for not only very tasty local fare but some really original flavours so don’t be shy in being a little more adventurous when ordering. Oh, and with 3 wine regions, the oldest vine in the world, which is almost 500 years old, their wine compliments the food perfectly.
